What academic offerings will the school have?
KIPP Sankofa Charter School is a college preparatory middle school and therefore will prepare all students to compete at top high schools. KSCS graduates will meet or exceed NYS performance standards with an intensive focus on English and Mathematical skills.
What is the Saturday School Program?
KIPP Sankofa Charter School students and teachers will be involved in Saturday School Sessions a minimum of twice each month. This time may alternatively be used for field lessons as well.
Why is there an extended school day?
The KIPP model includes maintaining an extended school day that allows teachers the time and adequate opportunity to develop and deliver challenging and stimulating lessons and to focus on the needs of individual students. Extra time is set aside to address the needs of students in Reading and Math without sacrificing instructional time in Science, Social Studies or in the Arts. It is our belief that a challenging educational experience includes a balance between a comprehensive curriculum, stimulating instruction, consistent management and discipline and exposure to the world beyond the classroom through the arts, athletics, and field lessons. Therefore our students and teachers commit to putting in the extra time and energy necessary to achieve this balance and reap the benefits of it.
